In a 2007 Q&A session with Helene Tursten by mystery writer Cara Black, the author commented that she thought her books suited American readers because they were not "slow" as other Scandinavian crime novels tend to be. However, several members of this book group found Dectective Inpector Huss to be a generally slow read in which there was not a lot of character development. The group ageed that the author presented a realistic description of police procedures — perhaps because of insights gained from her ex-policeman husband and his former colleagues.
